Walk For Recovery

 In recovery, one of the things we learn very early on is...

I completely agree with this philosophy and have adopted it as a way of life. But after awhile these individual days start to add up to weeks, months and years. Today marks 335 days I have been sober. 335 days is also equivalent to 11 months.

A very important milestone is 30 days away.  By the grace of god, I hope to be able to say on August 30th that I am ONE year sober.

As a preemptive celebration, I am raising money for Minnesota Recovery Connection's third annual Walk For Recovery. I will be participating in the walk and hope to raise $365 by August 30th - a dollar a day that I have been sober.

Walk for Recovery
Saturday, September 21 | 10:30 AM
Lake of the Isles | Minneapolis, MN

Minnesota Recovery Connection has been a resource I have leaned on during these last 11 months and will continue to do so in the future. They work locally with Hazelden where I attended out patient treatment last fall. The recovery community has been very important to me as I re-learned who I am, what I believe in and how I plan to live my life each day.

Addiction has affected a number of family members in my life and a number of friends. It's a very real disease that affects all aspects of living. I choose to talk about living in recovery because I hope to help others who are affected by this disease see that recovery is possible.

Thank you in advance for your support!

About MRC's Walk For Recovery

This is a National Recovery Month event to express gratitude, convey hope, and to celebrate all in recovery and those who help recovery happen! This is a way to celebrate recovery, show your support, generate hope, reduce stigma, and offer living proof that recovery is real!

Funds that you or your team raise will help MRC to continue our mission of strengthening and supporting the recovery community through peer-based recovery support programs, advocacy, and recovery-related public education.

2013 calendar

I created this calendar as a Christmas present for my Grandma this year. She has been an important part of my life since I was a child, but our relationship has really grown and strengthened over the last year.

She has been in recovery for over 23 years, being a newbie to recovery myself, these principles hit home with me from the first time I heard them. They aren't just words with defiinitions, they are a way of life. By practicing these principles in your daily life, you are bound to live a happier more fulfilled life.

I love you, Grandma. Your support and love has never waivered and I can not thank you enough for being by my side on this journey. xoxo

jenni + michael's wedding

I met Jenni 8 years ago during college as members of the recruitment team for fall rush. She was one of the most genuine and sweetest people I met during my 4 years at UND. When Jenni + Michael got engaged, Jenni took to Pinterest with many ideas for her wedding where we re-connected. I met with Jenni, then with Jenni + Michael and the rest is history!

I really enjoyed working with Jenni + Michael on their wedding. They knew what they wanted, but were also open to letting me add my little touches to their special day. The little "squiggle" as Jenni affectionately called it became the centerpiece of the design for all of their print related items for their wine themed wedding. The bordeaux and grey complimented eachother very nicely and turned out magnificently on the letterpress invitations.

The Thank You card {not pictured} and Guest Book sign turned out to be my favorite print items of the wedding. Taking the important words - love, tradition and home - and highlighting them in bordeaux and the script font is what set these two pieces apart for me.

To Jenni + Michael: It was an absolute pleasure working with you. Thank you for taking a chance with me on the most important day of your life. I wish you nothing but the best in the future - many years of happiness lie before you, enjoy it!

PS... We had a small world moment early on. Michael's aunt, Garin, is the woman who inspired my name. My dad worked for her mother {Michael's grandmother} many years ago and really liked the name and here I am twenty-something years later.

queen's jubilee

Once upon a time, there was a Queen and her name was Michelle. Her Majesty was one of a kind and loved by all. An important birthday was upon her and it was to be celebrated in style. Her King, along with their three Princes and Lady Kelsey, planned the most elegant of surprise jubilees to celebrate this special day. All of Her Majesty's friends and family were in attendance and included a musical performance from Sir Jon Ondrasik from Five For Fighting.

Above are a few highlights from the Queen's Jubilee. I was commissioned to design the poster turned grand birthday card by the King and Lady Kelsey. The element of her tiara was number one priority along with her favorite color - purple.

The Jubilee went off without a hitch and was a grand way for everyone to spend their Saturday night. Happy Birthday Michelle!

3M Championship Golf Tournament

Golf. You either hate it or you love it. And I love it. During my junior year of high school, I was required to watch coverage of the Masters Tournament for Mr. Schumacher's Sports Lit class as an assignment. It was hands down one of the best classes {and assignements} I had in high school and ultimately taught me to love watching a game that was such a large part of my childhood.

It wasn't a Sunday at my Grandma & Grandpa's house without golf on. Still to this day, that is the case, except we watch golf almost 7 days a week - thank you Golf Channel for the continuous coverage.

Last weekend was the 20th Anniversary of the 3M Championship that is a part of the Champions Tour out at the TPC in Blaine. This year they allowed fans to bring their cell phones to the course and follow along via the 3M Championship App and recruited volunteers to be a part of the Mobile App Crew.

When Gage Marketing asked for volunteers, I couldn't say no. When Nathan Eide, from Gage, asked for help with some of the badges for the app, I couldn't say no either.

Together, we came up with 5 badges that needed to be created:
- Volunteer Center {For checking into the Volunteer Headquarters}
- Family Fun Zone {For checking into the Family Fun Zone}
- 92KQRS Party Zone {For checking into the 92 KQRS Party Tent / 19th Hole}
- Noonan! {For checking into the Caddy Tent}
- Like a Boss {For checking into any VIP Skybox on the course} - This one is probably my favorite

The creative direction from Nathan was quite minial, except for the names that were to be used, from there it was up to me to come up with different ideas for each of the badges.

We had a weekend full of great weather, wonderful golf and fun times. Already looking forward to next year's tournament!

mykel + kristen's wedding gift

As you can imagine, the University and Fighting Irish is a source of great pride for Notre Dame grads. The ability to get married at the Basilica is something most alumni want to experience {or so I've heard}. My brother, Jamie, and Mykel went to Notre Dame and lived together in Dillon Hall.

My mom commissioned me to create a gift for the Kramer's to bring with her to South Bend.  To capture the Notre Dame-ness of the couple in this print, I changed the hearts in the date to clover leafs - a symbol closely associated with the University.

brad + casie's wedding gift

I was delighted to be invited to Brad + Casie's wedding last Friday at the McNamara Alumni Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

While I was looking for a wedding gift for these two very special people in my life, a picture from my 28th birthday party in April kept popping into my head.

It was pouring rain as we left the bar and Brad + Casie ran back to their car sans jackets or umbrellas. They took the CUTEST self photo and posted it to Instagram. To me, this picture captured their love and personalities perfectly.

I wanted to find a way to include this picture in their wedding gift. As I was looking for the photo on Facebook, I came across so many other wonderful pictures of these two and decided immediately to put together a custom framed poster.

Brad + Casie: I love you both so much and was honored to be a part of your special day. I can't wait to see what's in store for you and watch your love continue to grow. xoxo

{Day 3} 30 Days of Creativity

A month ago, I posted a question on my personal facebook page for my friends:

There were a lot of great responses, but the one that stood out to me most was posted by my dear friend Laura, my college sorority sister and former roommate. She, too, has a passion for live music and I run into her at shows in the most random of places (Fargo, North Dakota). For those reasons, I decided to take her quote and turn it into a picture she could hang on the wall of her house or keep with her everyday.

{For Miss LBJ: I miss you to pieces and am so proud of all you have accomplished in your life. You are a bright and shining star and I can't wait to see what you do in the future. Cocktails on me next time you are in the Twin Cities. xoxo}

I would be remiss if I did not give credit for the wonderful photographer of this photo, Miss Shawna Carver. Living in Hawaii, she has the opportunity to photograph some amazing sunrises and sunsets. She's been more than awesome to let me use her photos from time to time. :)

If you're not familiar with this song, I highly recommend you take a listen and add it to your everyday play list: Awake My Soul by Mumford & Sons.
